“So many of us look to the wisdom of the East, to solve our problems in the West.” Those are the words of filmmaker Vikram Ghandi, who set out to see how to see legitimate many of the sources of Eastern wisdom were, by impersonating a guru and then gaining a massive, legitimate following. The documentary follows Vikram Ghandi on his journey as the “wise Indian guru”, Kumaré . Starting from humble beginnings in Arizona, the false prophet soon gains a large following, all of whom believe he is the real deal. Then, “at the height of his popularity, the Guru Kumaré must reveal his true identity to his disciples and unveil his greatest teaching of all.”
The film will undoubtedly attract controversy when it reaches the mainstream, but it will also spark debate and in turn lead people to question where, and whom, they take guidance from, and that will never be a bad thing.
