We all have our lapses of judgment. But some of us make such horrendously poor decisions that one simply has to ask, “What were they on?”. Every week we bring you three contenders in what can only be described as a battle of small wits. So, with great pleasure we present this week’s three La Fee Absinthe-Minded Moment of the Week finalists. Inside we have Atholl Trollip, Nonhle Thema, and the Amy Winehouse. But who claims the prize for the most mindbogglingly foolish tomfoolery of the week? Click through to find out!

Third Place – Amy Winehouse

While Amy’s very name may suggest an ancestral tree with more spirits than a Scottish castle, and with a long history of substance abuse herself, her complete unraveling on stage in Belgrade was surprising, even by her standards. If Amy wasn’t drinking something as strong as absinthe, then alcohol certainly isn’t responsible for her behavior. Check out the incredibly blind video here.
Second Place – Athol Trollip

The leader of the Democratic Alliance parliamentary caucus was caught out by what we like to refer to as a “rookie error”, in the IT business. Athol intended to send a snide email about one Jaap Kelder, an Afrikaner rights activist, to one of his colleagues. Instead, Athol sent it straight back to Jaap. The email read: Please answer this Asshole once and for all, deal with the Afrikaner issue that he raises and tell him to stop masquerading as a ratepayer organisation, especially if he is the reincarnation of the AWB, KP, FF+, NAZI. Stuur die IDIOOT in Sy moer asseblief (Send the idiot to his end please). Athol.” Athol faces a possible hearing before the South African Human Rights Commission for his email. Ouch.

The Winner – Nonhle Thema

Pseudo-celebrity, former brand ambassador and part-time niche television channel presenter, Nonhle Thema, suffered an ego bubble inflation earlier this week on Twitter. Unfortunately, she also experienced the subsequent pop, when her increasingly ego-maniacal tweets, including such gems as, “”, turned her in to an object of mirth and scorn for tweeting (read: opinion-leading) masses of South Africa. Nonhle, you much surely have been drinking absinthe to get that far ahead of yourself. Just take it easy for a while. Lie down. Have a nap. I said lie down. There’s a good girl.
