The Pro Afrikaans Action Group (Praag), has been put under severe pressure, after Google pulled the plug on all of its advertising. The site had been generating thousands of Rands, but without it’s advertsing revenue it may be forced to shut down.
The website owners recieved a small amount of money every time a visitor clicked on an advertisements placed on their websites by Google.
That was until Google informed the site owners that Afrikaans was not a “recognised advertising language” and it could channel advertisements only to the English version of the Praag website.
Site owner Dan Roodt insists that Google is reacting to a woman who had started a “malicious and fanatical” Facebook group called ‘Speak Out Against the Website Praag‘. In social media posts for the group, she allegedly accused Praag of being racist and of spreading hate speech. She shared the letter with companies she claimed were helping it spread this message by advertising on the website.
