The US Copyright Office has come to a verdict regarding the photo that was taken by a monkey, as Wikimedia claimed that it belonged to the monkey and not the photographer who owned the camera.
Well, the office has decided that the monkey CANNOT own the copyright of the photo… well… because it’s a monkey.
“The Office will not register works produced by nature, animals or plants. Likewise, the office cannot register a work purportedly created by divine or supernatural beings, although the office may register a work where the application or the deposit copy(ies) state that the work was inspired by a divine spirit.”
So, there you go, all you ghosts you want to become photographers and artists, you’ll never have the rights to your own work. Just a heads-up.
