Losing a parent is never easy, but sometimes the kids are actually relieved.
Take for example Gina and Jay, who clearly weren’t that fond of mother dearest, Kathleen Dehmlow.
Their obituary, published in the Redwood Falls Gazette of Minnesota, starts off well enough, but it’s not long before things take a sharp turn.
Here comes the burn…
That third paragraph really is a dramatic pivot.
There was also some controversy around whether or not to publish, but it looks like they went ahead anyway:
The obituary has since been pulled from the Redwood Falls Gazette website, but that hasn’t stopped MPR News from reaching out to family members for comment:
Dwight Dehmlow, who lives in the Twin Cities, said, “The sad thing about this is there is no rebuttal. There is more to it than this. It’s not simple.”
Dehmlow declined to say more about what went on back then, and he would not explain his relationship to Kathleen Dehmlow.
She had lived in a nursing home for the past year, and her sisters were there when she died, Dwight Dehmlow said.
“She made a mistake 60 years ago, but who hasn’t?” he said. “Has she regretted it over the years? Yes.”
Dwight Dehmlow said he determined Tuesday that Jay is behind the obituary.
“He’s very upset,” the relative said. “He decide to go out with hate. I can’t believe he did this. … This is going to hurt a lot of people.”
Sounds like there’s plenty more to this one, but I guess we may never know.
Kathleen, it sure sounds like you lived your life to the fullest.
