SpaceX – the guys who last year became the first to launch a private spaceship into orbit and bring it home – are planning on sending humans to Mars within 10 to 20 years, according to a Wall Street Journal interview with CEO Elon Musk. And these guys have an X in their name, so we should take them seriously.
Still, the fact that this is a private company making the claim, rather than a government institution, makes me a little more optimistic; Musk geeks out in the interview – saying he wants
“SpaceX to help make life multi-planetary. We’re going all the way to Mars, I think. Best case, 10 years, worst case, 15 to 20 years
…
A future when humanity is a spacefaring civilization, out there exploring the stars, is an incredibly exciting future.”
I’m okay with this.
