Domo and CEO.com have released a study which found that almost 70% of CEOs of the world’s largest companies are not present, let alone active, on social media platforms – Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+. And the majority of the 30% who do engage in social media use LinkedIn. These 30% are also making a very gradual move to Twitter.
You will recall Warren Buffet joined Twitter with the most amazing first tweet ever. He quickly racked up millions of followers, but according to the study, 22% of Buffet’s followers are fake accounts. And of the CEO’s who are on Twitter, some 13% of their followers are fake too.
The study also found that while there has been an increase in Fortune 500 CEO Twitter accounts, only 19 of the 28 new accounts have been active in the last 100 days.
Of all the Fortune 500 CEOs, only 7% have Facebook accounts, a decrease from 2012, while only five CEO’s have Google+ accounts.
