  • Has The Michelin Star Food Guide Reached The End Of The Road?

The latest 2014 Michelin results have come under scrutiny after being leaked a week early. Critics are lamenting over the world-renowned food guide’s ability to uphold its “undisputed jurisdiction”.

Critics are accusing the Michelin Guide’s 2014 ratings of being biased towards young chefs and have failed to remove Michelin Star’s from under-performing establishments. Food critic Gilles Pudlowski has called for a change in the guide’s leadership, saying “Can’t they find any French people to run this guide?” The guide is currently ran by Michael Ellis, an American, and Julian Casper, a German.

Some chef’s take the Michelin stars a bit too seriously. It was reported that in 2003 French super-chef Bernard Loiseau committed suicide after he heard rumours that Michelin were about to remove a star from his restaurant.

On that note, this was Gordon Ramsay’s less dramatic response to losing a star:

“I started crying when I lost my stars. It’s a very emotional thing for any chef. It’s like losing a girlfriend. You want her back,” said Ramsay.

    Shame..
