If you have a jar of minced garlic in your fridge, just do the world a favour and chuck it out. You might go on about how it’s a time saver and it stops your hands from smelling, but simply put, crushed garlic in a jar isn’t worth it.
Getting smelly hands from using fresh garlic is a small price to pay for all the flavour and deliciousness it adds to a dish. Here are a couple of reasons why you shouldn’t buy crushed garlic in a jar:
- Jarred garlic was peeled with a blast of air, which removes a lot of its flavour.
- They sometimes bleach garlic before jarring.
- It sometimes has phosphoric acid added to it – the stuff they use to remove rust.
- It only takes 10 seconds to peel and a further 45 seconds to mince real, fresh garlic.
