You’re Not Allowed To Take Selfies When You Vote

Here we go again. Just when you thought that taking a selfie was starting to become a little less fun than when this recreational activity was first conceived by a bored human spending way too much time on their mobile cellular device, the selfie made a come back! The latest trend world-wide in the selfie-related universe is to participate on voting day with more than just a can-do attitude. People have been taking selfies of themselves inside the voting booths , sometimes depicting their vote on the ballot paper with in the shot.

Alright, in the age of technology it is understandable why we humans felt the need to jazz up the mundane experience of casting our votes and choosing our next ruler. But alas, all potential fun has been removed by Independent Electoral Commission of SA spokeswoman Kate Bapela. in her own words : ” It is an offence to take and/or publish photographs which reveal a person’s vote on a ballot paper. Upon conviction offenders will be liable to a fine or a term of imprisonment not exceeding one year” No that does not sound like fun at all.

So try to contain your disappointment. You’re just going to have to go and pick your next leader without documenting the entire experience with pouted lips and a tweet to your followers. If you are DESPERATE to showcase your commitment to being a participant in our country’s political future then apparently you are welcome to take the darn selfie OUTSIDE of the voting booth. To us that only seems like less fun because it’s the option that won’t get us into trouble.
