Okay – so President Zuma has now officially entered himself into the ‘unofficial’ competition known as , ” World Leader Most Capable Of Insulting The Population’s Intelligence” . This guy really doesn’t get it, does he? The media has been awash with non-stop criticism about the obscene amount of money being thrown into Zuma’s Nkandla homestead. Does Zuma acknowledge in the sufficient manner required from a leader who is running a country of people who live mostly below the breadline and who themselves have probably only ever seen a mansion represented on a TV screen in a shop window? No. What does this lovely chap do? He spends more money . How much money you ask? Oh, you know, roughly enough to significantly reduce hunger in his own country. The proposed town being constructed around Zuma’s homestead is reported to cost R2 billion and has been “privately” funded – although no one wants to say who these “private” funders are.
To further add to the mystery and suspicion surrounding the project the Mail and Guardian have reported that
Nkandla municipal manager Sthembiso Mthembu, however, said he did not know about the project besides what he had gleaned through the media.“I don’t understand why, if a town is going to be built in our area, we’re not part of it as the Nkandla municipality,” he said. (Read more here)
We too do not understand, Mr Mthembu. Why would the municipality not be involved or even aware of such significant development of their own area?
To put the cherry on the proverbial cake this “project was the brainchild of Masibambisane, a rural development organisation which Zuma and his cousin Sibusiso “Deebo” Mzobe co-chair” (Mail and Guardian). In light of the secrecy and lies surrounding Nkandla, it seems only reasonable that we are pretty skeptical about how above-board any big development with Zuma’s name behind it is.
