OK guys, there’s one hell of a fire on the loose and we can play our part to help the brave men and women who are battling the blaze.

First of all the NSRI in Hout Bay have released a statement appealing for the public’s cooperation. We quote that statement below (Caps Lock theirs):

NSRI ARE APPEALING TO THE PUBLIC NOT TO COME TO HOUT BAY TO OBSERVE THE FIRE AS ACCESS ROADS FOR FIRE SERVICES AND EMERGENCY VEHICLES ARE GETTING BLOCKED BY ONLOOKERS ARRIVING APPARENTLY TO OBSERVE THE FIRE.

The City has also urged people to avoid beaches in False Bay area; there is congestion caused by road closures due to mountain fire.

Easy enough.  Some restaurants have already leant a hand with feeding the firefighters and keeping them hydrated, and an appeal has gone out for brands who are willing to contribute sunscreen, saline drops for eyes and noses, water or energy drinks.

Anyone wanting to donate any of the above can head to the Hout Bay Fire Station (Main Road, Hout Bay, 021 790 5980), the Fish Hoek Fire Station (Central Circle, Fish Hoek, 021 784 2004) or head to their nearest Fire Station (map HERE).

To get an idea of what we are up against check out this time lapse footage HERE.

Let’s all try and do our bit, whatever that might be, to ensure we minimise the damage to our beautiful city.

More tips on how to help can be found HERE.

If anyone has other suggestions please drop them in the comments section.
