So we tend to take quite a keen interest in local music around these parts. After all, you guys do know we have our own radio station right?

Sometimes it’s difficult getting out there and sourcing the new, local talent in amongst all the dross we hear on commercial radio these days. That’s why when we got a little heads up about two local musos with buckets of talent in the City of Gold we thought we wanted to know a little more about ‘Cash ‘n Reezy’.

Let’s pop over to their Facebook page and see what these youngsters making waves on the Jozi hip hop scene have to say about themselves:

Cash and Reezy is a male Hip Hop/Rap duo from the East Rand with a distinct sound, blending two styles of rap and with the common goal of making good music. They have been childhood friends with different musical influences, and in 2012 they met at a Sound engineering/music school and both decided to merge their musical talents which gave rise to the group.

So what are others saying about these guys then? The Jack Daniel’s Music Scouts were full of praise, with this from their YouTube video:

They’re fiercely independent for one thing, rising to the challenge of producing their debut album, First Impressions, without the support/control of a record company.

They also have a clear sense of what South African hip hop is and should be, taking some inspiration from overseas naturally, but also looking inward to their own culture, their own surroundings and their own lives and using that to fuel their music.

We’re liking what we’re hearing guys, and we think you hip hop fans out there will agree. After all, anyone who can take some airtime away from One Direction and the Biebs has gone a long way to winning us over.
