We might be used to it here at home but it is still big news in other countries when a president bare-face lies to his people. How about the whopper from ‘ol Bill Clinton when he said he did not have sexual relations with THAT woman?
Well it seems over the years the American people have softened and forgiven Clinton for his indiscretions. Forgiven, but not forgotten. Famous painter of portraits Nelson Shanks, who has painted such luminaries as Princess Diana, painted Clinton in 2006 and snuck in a sneaky little reference to his illicit past actions.
He sat down for an interview with Philly and had the following to say about his painting:
If you look at the left-hand side of it there’s a mantel in the Oval Office and I put a shadow coming into the painting and it does two things. It actually literally represents a shadow from a blue dress that I had on a mannequin…It is also a bit of a metaphor in that it represents a shadow on the office he held, or on him.
…the Clintons hate the portrait. They want it removed from the National Portrait Gallery. They’re putting a lot of pressure on them.
I think he could have done more. I would have painted a pair of women’s underwear in the corner and an even larger, more sinister shadow representing Hilary hanging over Bill’s head.
