Tinder have just announced their latest plans for the premium version of the dating app, Tinder Plus, and it appears they are punishing users for being a little long in the tooth. Yes folks, if you happen to have walked this earth for more than 30 years you can expect to pay more for the chance to be rejected by younger, more attractive versions of what you used to go after.
That is, of course, back in the day when you enjoyed grinding up against randoms on a sweaty dance floor at an overcrowded bar. Surrounded by people you don’t know. Scary, isn’t it?
So what can you over the hill over 30’s expect to pay for the premium service? This from the BBC:
UK users face a £3.99 monthly fee for the service if they are aged between 18 and 27, and £14.99 a month if they are aged 28 and above.
In the US, the corresponding figures are $9.99 (£6.50) and $19.99 (£13).
Tinder added that members in emerging economies would be charged an average of $2.99 a month for the premium features.
OK, you’re still paying more if you’re 28 so there’s some solace in that. Tinder have defended the price gap by saying they conducted extensive tests and have tried to match the various age group’s ‘price points’.
Another feature getting lots of airtime is the Rewind feature, where you can undo an accidental left swipe and have a second chance at love. It is also great for when you have tried to punch above your weight and swiped yes to the real hotties, only to find a severe lack of matches.
There is still no announcement as to when they will introduce the ‘dick pic’ feature, where users can choose whether or not they are open to receiving pictures of other people’s junk. For that, Whatsapp and Snapchat remain thankful.
