Judging by all your tweets and message we know you guys out there are itching to help in whatever way you can with the fires running rampant in the Cape. Well it just got a whole lot easier for you, so we’re going to break it down step-by-step.

Uber has created a temporary vehicle view, labelled UberASSIST, that allows all riders to request a vehicle to come and collect donations for the brave Cape Town firefighters. This will start running from 10am.

Uber is encouraging all Capetonians to donate drinks and food to these heroes and heroines in any quantities, and even the smallest donation will go a long way. Items that have been requested by the firefighters are bottles of water, sports energy drinks (Energade and Lucozade), non-perishable foods such as canned beans, spaghetti and sweetcorn and loaves of bread. Uber will collect all donations and arrange to have them dropped off at the nominated fire stations and community centres across Cape Town.

STEP 1 – Sign up as an Uber user HERE.

STEP 2 – Open the UberASSIST vehicle view on the bottom slider.

STEP 3 – Toggle over UberASSIST and request a ride like you normally would.

STEP 4 – A vehicle will arrive at your location within minutes, ready to collect your donations and deliver them to the firefighters.

STEP 5 – There will be no charge for the UberASSIST rides so please get donating and help our firefighters protect our beautiful land!

The service will start running at 10AM.

There you have it. Let’s get all hands on deck and help in whatever way we can.
