  • You Can Now Swim Naked In A Vat Of Beer (But You Probably Shouldn’t)

We all love an ice cold beer, but what happens when you take that love too far?

I’ll tell you: you end up at a beer spa in Iceland swimming in the stuff.

Hailed as “the best thing to come out of Scandinavia since ABBA” by The Irish Post, the Bjórböðin Beerspa & Restaurant invites you to spend the day soaking naked in a vat full of beer.

They’re also very specific about the fact that you have to be naked.

Being Irish myself, I can understand the Irish Post’s excitement at the thought of a giant vat of beer. Still, I have three overriding thoughts on this:

    1. I’m pretty sure the jury is still out on whether or not ABBA was a good thing.
    2. I have no idea how you would begin to pronounce ‘Bjórböðin’,
    3. That is A LOT of wasted beer.

There’s another detail that you should be aware of – the beer is warm.

While you soak in warm beer, you can t least drink a cold one from the nearby microbrewery, with a tap conveniently located to the side of the bath:

At the end of the experience, you are advised to avoid a shower for at least 24 hours. I guess the next 24 hours are spent smelling like you’ve been on a bender, with judging side-eyes from everybody you come across.

Look, if the Scandinavians want to swim in beer, more power to them.  In South Africa, we prefer to drink our beer and swim in the ocean.

And if you’re going to soak up anything, best soak up some Espiritu Libre (the spirit of freedom) by knocking back a Sol.

Sol is the authentic Mexican beer that believes in freedom and independence, and celebrates those who want to be true to themselves, because only by being true to yourself, can you be Espiritu Libre.

And hey, if being true to yourself involves soaking in a tub of Sol, without any clothing on, you do you. Just make sure you don’t miss out on the fun of drinking one at the same time.

You can also get involved with the best beach party of the year, coming up this weekend, at the We Love Summer Beach Party in Granger Bay.

    Cheers!
