Details From Takealot’s New ‘Ultimate Checkout Sale’

Next week, Takealot is launching a sale that they hope will rival the likes of Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday. Here are the details, and a few words of advice.

Amazon Prime Day may have wrapped up over in the US (yes, South Africans could still cash in), but for those who suffer from FOMOOAD (fear of missing out on a deal), here’s another way to part with your money.

Takealot Group CEO Kim Reid has now announced the company’s own version of Amazon Prime Day, dubbing it ‘The Ultimate Checkout Sale’.

According to MyBroadband, the sale will offer big discounts on products right across the Takealot and Superbalist platforms:

The Ultimate Checkout Sale will base its deals on an analysis of behaviour and trends of the 1.7 million Takealot and Superbalist shoppers.

“What makes The Ultimate Checkout different is that it is built on shopper behaviour and we are hoping to establish this as an annual event,” said Reid.

The sale will focus on deals for Takealot’s highest-rated, most searched for, and most wish-listed products.

Takealot said that it aims to make The Ultimate Checkout Sale a South African equivalent to other popular international sales.

Hey, we all love a good sale. Just remember to exercise some common sense, because Takealot has come under fire numerous times for their so-called ‘discounts’.

These are the dates to remember:

  • July 24 – Deals on highest rated products
  • July 25 – Deals on most searched for products + highest rated products
  • July 26 – Deals on most wish-listed products + most searched for products + highest rated products

That’s kicking off one minute after midnight on July 24. Enjoy your three days of looking busy at work whilst sifting through deals.

Those who make purchases across Takealot and Superbalist over the course of the sale will also stand a chance to win a grand prize of R20,000 in vouchers from Takealot and Superbalist.

Hey, you gotta spend money to make money.

My advice would be to figure out what you need over the next few days, and make a note of the prices that product is selling for at present.

That way, when the sale kicks off, you’ll know if you’re actually getting bang for your buck. Be aware that Takealot has been accused of bumping up their prices on certain products in the lead-up to sales events, so check numerous sites and note the prices on each.

Sales are great, and everyone loves a bargain, but don’t blindly buy into the notion that you’re getting a great deal because you’re being told so.
