When the Springboks won the Rugby World Cup (yes, I’m bringing that up again), South Africa rode the wave of national pride.
Fast forward six weeks or so, and we are still world champions.
That’s important – always remember that.
Unfortunately, we’re also back in the load shedding nightmare cycle, where every day entails checking the schedule to see when the lights will go out.
According to President Ramaphosa, who spoke yesterday of acts of sabotage at Eskom, there should be no load shedding between December 17 and January 13.
Not that South Africa’s most celebrated cartoonist is going to let that stop him from sharpening his tools and getting to work, and he’s given Ramaphosa and our government a double dose this week.
On Tuesday, Zapiro’s Daily Maverick cartoon was titled ‘Enlighten Us’:
Never has a solar-charging power bank been a better investment.
Zapiro had another dig with his Daily Maverick cartoon today, titled ‘Festive Mood’:
It’s getting tougher for those who bought into Ramaphoria to keep that enthusiasm going.
After all, it was Ramaphosa who was tasked with turning SAA, Eskom and the SA Post Office around back in 2015 as part of that so-called ‘War Room’.
I updated my EskomSePush app this morning and noticed that they’ve now added Stages Five through Eight.
This below shows Zone Seven, which is much of the Cape Town CBD and surrounds.
We are currently on Stage Two, but just have a look at what the likes of Stages Seven and Eight would mean:
All we can now is hope it never comes to that.
Oh well – enjoy your day, world champions.
