If Fikile Mbalula was just another Twitter user crying out for attention, we could laugh off his antics without paying him much heed.

Alas, he’s our current Minister of Transport, having been shunted along from previous roles as Minister of Sports and Recreation and Minister of Police, leaving a shopping list of failures in his wake.

That’s the joy of being an ANC minister – no matter how terrible you are at your job, there’s always another plush appointment just around the corner.

It doesn’t even matter if you’re being criminally charged.

Anyway, back to Fikile and his unhinged Twitter rant from Monday.

He went off at Carl Niehaus, Ace Magashule, the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA), and Kebby Maphatsoe.

It appears as though Mr Fix was soon put in his place, because those tweets have now been deleted and replaced by this:

FULL: STATEMENT BY MINISTER @MBALULAFIKILE on CAMPAIGN BY PEOPLE WHO ALLEGE THEMSELVES AS MK VETERANS pic.twitter.com/EfDnw7XCod

    — Minister of Transport |Mr Fix (@MbalulaFikile) October 12, 2020

An official press release, like a real politician, would have done from the outset.

The Minister of Transport’s embarrassing outburst also caught the attention of Zapiro, and he took aim at a favourite target of his.

Yesterday’s cartoon on the Daily Maverick involved pots and kettles:

If only we could turf the lot of them out.

At least, in recent weeks, the Hawks and the NPA look to be sharpening some tools that lay blunt for many, many years.

The Mail & Guardian reckons “crooks are shivering in their boots”, and Business Day says that Hermione Cronje, who runs the Investigative Directorate (ID) in the NPA, could be “hiding an ace”.

We’ve waited long enough – cards on the table time, please.
