Since we learnt that drinking coffee can be really good for the health of our livers, our morning brew just feels all the more welcome.
Honestly, we don’t need to be told that coffee has health benefits for it to make our day better.
But knowing all the things that coffee can do for us does make the bond with our daily cup stronger.
To really appreciate the full package, it’s worth considering all the other ways it can help around the house that go beyond that pick me up in the morning.
Before we get to that, here are some coffee hacks to enhance your drinking experience.
- Don’t store coffee beans in the freezer; it doesn’t keep them fresh, just cold.
Rather keep the beans away from heat, light, air, and moisture.
Luckily, our favourite coffee, Terbodore, comes in a zip-lockable bag so the beans are protected from their mortal enemies.
- Add a pinch of salt to your coffee grinds before you add water if you want to make it taste less bitter.
- Reheat coffee in a pot over low heat (the keyword is ‘low’ because high heat will burn the coffee) instead of nuking it in the microwave.
- Freeze coffee into ice cubes and use them to cool down your coffee instead of plain ice that can water the cup down.
You can also freeze cubes of milk with a bit of the sweetener of your choice to mix things up a bit, or do things properly and buy an already made cold brew for that extra refresh.
- Use a little cinnamon instead of sugar to get a sweeter taste or to breathe new life into coffee that’s not the freshest.
If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can even add cloves, nutmeg, and/or cardamom.
Better yet, just go for a tasty flavour from the start, like Terbodore’s wildly popular limited edition Salted Caramel flavoured coffee.
Outside of the drinking experience, here are some coffee hacks to help around the home:
- If the drain is clogged, mix some ground coffee with dishwashing liquid and pour it down the drain followed by boiling water. This should break up whatever is causing the blockage.
- You can use coffee as a degreaser; simply mix it with liquid soap, buff off the residue, and rinse afterwards with warm water. We’re looking at you, pesky ring around the bath, and you, greasy spots around the stove.
- Have a nick on your wooden furniture? Mix instant coffee with a couple of tablespoons of water to make a thick paste and use a cotton wool pad to fill in the chip. When it dries, buff your furniture with polish.
- Stains on the inside of coffee mugs, even those old AF ones that you’re still holding on to, can be handled with baking soda, hot water, and a sponge.
- Toss leftover coffee grinds into your garden as a natural fertiliser and insect repellent, which will be better if the grinds are organic or fair trade.
For a brand that walks the talk on that front, Terbodore can really keep your green fingers happy.
Plus, the company does its own work to keep the planet lush, having planted thousands of new trees in the past four years in the communities that they source their coffee from.
You can find blends from Burundi, Uganda, and other renowned coffee producing regions via their online shop.
That’s you sorted with a clean home and a delicious morning cuppa, then.
