Mel Gibson knows a thing or two about stepping in it.

On that front, he’s got something in common with Will Smith but that’s pretty much where any similarities end.

During an interview on Friday night with Fox News host Jesse Watters, Mel was asked whether or not he would have been tempted to leap out of his seat if Chris Rock had angered him.

You know, The Slap. That story.

Watters’ question came right towards the end of a five-minute interview. While Mel chuckled, his handler / publicist quickly jumped in to prevent any response:

Mel is on a media blitz promoting his new film, Father Stu, which will be released in US theatres on April 13.

I will say this in Mel’s favour – judging by past evidence, he would not have leapt up and slapped Rock.

Consider the merciless ribbing he endured at the hands of Ricky Gervais at the 2016 Golden Globes. If he didn’t klap Gervais, he wouldn’t have slapped Rock:

That bleeped out portion at the end is Gervais asking him what ‘sugar tits’ means.

Those are the words Gibson called a female police officer after he was arrested for a DUI in 2006.
