Private jets are the most environmentally damaging method of transportation.

But that doesn’t stop the world’s biggest celeb names from scooting around quickly in their private jet that emits more carbon emissions than a few average people are capable of in a year.

Taylor Swift has just been labelled the worst of all the celebs, dubbed the “biggest celebrity CO2 polluter” by sustainable digital marketing agency Yard.

Yard investigated the usage of private planes by celebrities in order to track the carbon emission they release and found that Swift tops the likes of Jay-Z, Steven Spielberg, and even Kylie Jenner or Kim Kardashian.

That’s a little surprising considering how Kylie was recently lambasted for flying her private jet for a ridiculously short amount of time, when she honestly could have just taken an Uber and not missed much.

    Mashable reported Swift’s numbers:

According to Yard, Swift’s plane took to the skies 170 times in the first 200 days of 2022, emitting 8,293.54 metric tons of carbon dioxide. That’s 22,923 minutes, almost 16 total days, of airtime.

The CO2 released into the atmosphere courtesy of Taylor Swift’s private plane during these past 7 months is the equivalent to what 1,184 average people would emit in a year. The data came from the Twitter account, @CelebJets, which tracks celebrities’ jets.

    Jeez, Taylor, calm down.

Swift’s shortest flight in 2022 was a 36-minute trip from Missouri to Nashville, and Yard noted the total was especially surprising given Swift isn’t on tour right now.

As you can imagine, Twitter and the like has been having an absolute field day with this information.

Swift’s representatives retaliated to the backlash, per The Week, saying that Swift isn’t responsible for all the flights:

“Taylor’s jet is loaned out regularly to other individuals,” Swift’s spokesperson [said].

“To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect.”

Those up in arms about the pollution argue that it is still Swift’s plane, and therein lies the responsibility.

You know how it goes on Twitter – when the going gets tough, the memes come flooding in:

Eve 6, an alternative rock band, decided to cover for Swift with the irony of it all:

i feel bad and need to come clean about something. taylor swift has been loaning me her private jet and i’ve been takin that thing everywhere. to the cvs down the street, quick getaways to bruges, all kinds of shit. don’t crucify her for being cool to her best friend

Someone also compiled all the times that the pop star mentioned anything flying-related in her lyrics:

I like where Mashable ended the fun and games, mentioning that although celebs deserve criticism for their contributions to climate change, it is roughly 100 companies and their CEOs that are responsible for the most significant portion of greenhouse gas emissions.

There’s only so much roasting that Twitter can do in a day, but in the end, it’s people like this that are the worst offenders of all.
