If you noticed someone giving you the eyes in the supermarket and thought, ‘hey man, I am just here to buy bananas’, maybe you were unwittingly giving them an ‘I’m open’ cue.
According to the former The Bachelor star Brittany Hockley, there’s a secret language being shared in grocery stores and it’s one that could land you with a little bit more than just a fruit salad.
Hockley shared a little-known hook-up technique via her Life Uncut podcast that she co-hosts with fellow The Bachelor alum Laura Byrne, per The New York Post, revealing the hidden meanings behind placing a bunch of bananas, a pineapple, or a peach in your cart if you’re single.
Where was this revelation when we were covering the most bizarre dating trends of 2022 so far?
Over to Hockley:
“You have to get a cart and you go to the fruit aisle. If you pick up a bunch of bananas, if they are upright, so the curve’s facing up in the top cart, this means you are single.
“Now if you just want to buy bananas but you’re not looking, you turn them the other way, down — so that means you are not open.”
Other “singles club” signals include an “upside down” pineapple and promiscuous peaches:
“If you have a pineapple, upside down in your cart, you are telling everybody that you are a swinger and you are open to swinging,” she explained.
But if you’re looking for a relationship, you need to grab a peach, revealing that you place the fruit in the cart of the person you’re interested in.
If there are no bananas in the upright position, the podcast host and recent author pointed out that you could just be throwing peaches out left, right, and centre.
In that case, either the person will be grateful for the addition to their next smoothie, or you’ll be heading home together to enjoy all manners of peaches.
Who is brave enough to test these techniques in a Pick n’ Pay?
Or, more to the point, who would prefer to be just left the hell alone while buying their fruit and veg?
