Wade’s back, baby!
Following a freak injury in 2017, only a year after his Olympic gold win at the 2016 Rio Olympics, Wade van Niekerk posted his fastest time for the 400m in seven years during the Silesia Diamond League in Poland.
Wade’s comeback journey has been long, but the speedster ran a magnificent time of 44.08 at the event, proudly sharing that his comeback is moving in a positive direction.
His time is then also a record for the meeting. Having expressed fears that he ‘may never get back on track’, Wade smashed the record by winning the 400m Men’s race.
The 400m world record holder suffered a devastating knee injury in a charity tag rugby match in 2017.
“Obviously with an injury like that,” Wade said at the time, “you need to be very patient when it comes to your physical recovery. But mentally you think the same way you’ve always thought. You want to be back on the track, you’re ready to challenge your records, you want to compete against the best in the world”
“Things are moving in a positive direction. I have been able to train consistently. It is my fastest run in 7 years and 44.0 shows that 43 seconds is possible.”@WaydeDreamer reflects on a brilliant victory in the men’s 400m.#SilesiaDL 🇵🇱#DiamondLeague
