The City of Cape Town is hoping to channel some of the 2010 Soccer World Cup gees as it prepares to host the 2023 Netball World Cup. The tournament is set to kick (throw?) off on Friday, 28 July, and will last until Sunday, 6 August.
To help locals get behind our national team, the city will be opening the Fan Park outside the Cape Town International Convention Centre for all fans during the tournament. The Fan Park will officially open on 28 July with a five-hour concert event.
Some of the country’s top musos are set to entertain the crowds, such as Nasty C, Simmy, Goodluck, Emo Adams, DJ Grant Lesch, and even Kurt Darren will be rocking out.
Spectators can look forward to watching games on a big screen, seeing the Sporting Chance Street Netball Challenge finals and netball exhibition matches. There’s also a kids area with games such as Jenga, jumping castle, face painting, and giant chess.
The Cape Town Carnival Floats will also be adding their colourful madness to the build-up, and hopefully, the city will pitch up to support the Proteas.
Entry to the Fan Park will be free, and there will be plenty of food and drink available to make it an experience well worth your time.
The City of Cape Town wants to ensure that everyone, especially those without tickets for games inside the CTICC can enjoy a festive environment with friends, family and fellow sports lovers. We encourage all those who are in Cape Town during the Netball World Cup to come through to the Fan Park to enjoy an all-day experience featuring live entertainment, interactive games and all sorts of activations.
South African netball captain Bongi Msomi and her team will be waving our flag high, and we really need to support the team. The full squad consists of:
Bongiwe Msomi (C), Karla Pretorius (VC), Khanyisa Chawane, Izette Griesel, Owethu Ngubane (R), Refiloe Nketsa (R), Phumza Maweni, Lenize Potgieter, Lefebre Rademan (R), Nicola Smith, Jeante Strydom, Nichole Taljaard, Elmere van der Berg, Shadine van der Merwe, Ine-Mari Venter.
There are still tickets available for the matches, so get yours here, and support our girls![source:702]
