Ah, love—the ultimate test of patience, devotion, and, apparently, one’s ability to survive simulated childbirth.
A man in China learned this the hard way after his girlfriend signed him up for a three-hour labour pain simulation, which ended with him in hospital, minus a piece of his small intestine.
According to mainland news outlet NetEase News, the woman from Henan province decided to put her boyfriend through the ultimate “are-you-worthy-of-me” trial before their engagement. Her mother and sister were fully on board, arguing that the poor bloke needed a crash course in women’s suffering before officially joining the family.
At first, the boyfriend (wisely) refused. But love, peer pressure, or sheer stubbornness got the better of him, and he eventually agreed to the challenge. Big mistake.
The simulation used electric currents to mimic the glorious agony of uterine contractions. The first 90 minutes involved a gradual increase in pain levels, with the last half spent at full-blown torture mode.
According to the girlfriend’s social media post, things escalated quickly. “He started screaming and struggling at level 8, swearing and crying at level 10, and by the end, he was gasping for air.”
Meanwhile, she and her sister were helpfully dabbing his forehead like battlefield nurses.
After the session, the man was drenched in sweat, doubled over in pain, and vomiting. A week later, what should have been a hilarious “remember-when-you-cried-like-a-baby” moment turned into a medical emergency. He landed in hospital with severe abdominal pain, where doctors discovered irreparable damage to his small intestine, requiring surgical removal.
His mother – understandably livid – banned the girlfriend from visiting and declared the engagement over. Oh, and they’re suing.
“I was told my boyfriend had part of his small intestine removed,” the woman later wrote, adding that she’d take full responsibility—so long as he recovers.
The internet, as expected, had thoughts.
One online observer said: “Typical labour pain lasts at most 10 minutes. This girlfriend and her family seem crazy.”
Another person said, “The pain women endure during childbirth is a complex mix of physical and emotional reactions that cannot be truly simulated.”
“Many women now choose painless labour. This woman’s actions should have legal consequences,” they added. “True love does not need testing; time will prove everything,” said a third.
As of now, the man’s condition remains undisclosed, but if a legal case follows, his ex-girlfriend may soon experience a different kind of pain – financial.
