Around 06h00 this morning, an accident was reported at the Strand and Buitengracht Street intersection, leading to the road’s closure. But why did it take so long for police to clear the wreckage? What you didn’t know, is that this is a murder scene.
According to officers on the scene, a Toyata Avanza (seen on the left in the picture above) was stolen in a hijacking in Langa. The Avanza collided with a white Opel Corsa (seen on the right in the picture above). Officers confirmed that a woman in the White Opel Corsa died in the crash, and as a result the police have launched a murder investigation.
The two suspects in the Toyota Avanza are being held at the Cape Town Central Police Station.
Police have reportedly collected all available evidence, and are currently taking finger prints from the cars.
The road is expected to be opened within the hour, as they await the road cleaning crew and sand to cover the oil-soiled tarmac.
