A massive fire has broken out in Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, effectively cutting off flights into Kenya’s largest airport. Bystanders reported a slow response from the city’s fire response, while the fire has since consumed almost all of the arrivals area.
Officials say that the airport will not permit any inbound or outbound flights at the airport, with the exception of emergency landings.
Transport secretary Michael Kamau said: “The fire started at a very central part of the airport and this made access difficult. But we have closed the airport indefinitely as we try to contain the fire.”
No injuries or deaths have been reported.
