A homeless man perished from the cold on Main Road in Kuilsriver yesterday. Police happened upon two men huddled under cardboard boxes outside a 7 Eleven. When neither of the men responded to a greeting, police investigated and found the pair to be unresponsive. One of the two men was already dead, while the second was suffering hypothermia. The man was rushed to hospital, where his condition has stabilised and improved.
In a separate incident, unconfirmed reports indicate that one other person may have died last night in Hout Bay, when a cave near to the Chapmans Peak Hotel in which a group of people were sheltering collapsed. Medics attempted a rescue operation last night, but dangerous weather conditions postponed operations until this morning.
