Since Colorado legalised recreational marijuana use and distribution a few months ago, dispensaries have been inundated with baby boomers who have finally got what they’ve wanted all along.
Denver marijuana enthusiast “Citizen Jay Daily”, stands at the front of a long queue, filling bag after bag with Colorado’s finest reefer. Here, normal, well-adjusted adults are paying R800 for a three and a half gram dose.
I wish you could see it in here. Everyone is so happy.
Our customers are grown-ups, adults. They’ll happily spend $80 because it’s not a matter of money, it’s a matter of access.
He explains that people have come from all over the world to sample Colorado’s freedom weed, some even as far as Poland, Argentina and Russia.
But most of his customers, he explains, are simply travelling back in time. Hardworking, responsible parents are ready to become their former selves once more.
Or, as Citizen Jay Daily puts it, “come out of the pot closet.”
Daily, who owns a archaeological consulting firm, explains how important it is to change people’s perception of marijuana.
It’s all about trying to show cannabis users in a positive light. I am a father, a husband, and a business owner. I am also an adult who uses cannabis. It doesn’t make me crazy. It doesn’t make me stupid. Or lazy.
