Mellowcabs may be the solution to the traffic clogged city hubs of South Africa. SA entrepreneur, Neil du Preez and his electricity-assisted human-powered microcab has won the regional award in a prestigious global technology competition.
Mellowcabs won the regional Smart Cities category of the 1776 Challenge Cup. The competition celebrates and identifies promising startups that are tackling the biggest challenges in four categories: Education, Health, Energy, and Smart Cities.
Neil du Preez will now join the rest of the regional winners in the US to compete in the final. This week-long event will serve as a great opportunity to get in touch with international investors.
Du Preez’s microcabs are designed to be efficient inner-city transport. They are constructed almost entirely from recycled material. SABS have already declared Mellowcabs roadworthy and they are expected to be launched in April.
