Hell hath no fury like a lover scorned. On Twitter. Women out there are being given the emotional cold shoulder by the men in their relationships in favour of social media trysts, according to recent studies. Men are more likely to share their thoughts to hundreds or thousands of friends and followers, than to the person sitting next to them.
But statistics from Pew Research Center suggest that social media is impacting relationships positively, with 74% of couples saying that their relationship was better, thanks to social media.
A study done by Eva Buechel from the University of Miami investigated the reasons why people share content online. It found that introverted males and females used social media and blogs to express their emotions and seek support. Males tend to favour microblogs it notes.
It goes on to explain that males friendship dynamics in general are to blame for them feeling more comfortable expressing their emotions or artistic works to a non personal audience. Men tend to not discuss their emotions with their friends in real life, while women find no problem confiding in each other.
