Juju appears to have bit the bullet regarding his on-going tax snafu, as the Economic Freedom Fighters leader has reached a compromise with Sars for his outstanding returns.
Julius Malema owes a relatively hefty sum (R16 million plus interest) to SARS for his failure to submit tax returns 2006 and 2010, and will now meet on 25 August to present his case to the court – more than enough time for something else to go wrong.
Sars even attached some of Malema’s property, including his snazzy Sandown mansion – cigar room included, to recoup the taxes that he had conveniently forgotten to submit.
Overnight… Mr Malema entered into a conditional compromise agreement [with SARS]
The parties have agreed to an extension. – Nic Maritz, Sars.
The final sequestration order will damage Malema’s chances of furthering his political career, as he would not be allowed to serve as a Member of Parliament.
