With Snapchat’s popularity steadily growing, the original photo-sharing giant Instagram needs to get in on the action, and has just unveiled “Bolt” – a photo-messaging service which allows users to “self-destruct” their photos sent to other users.
Bolt will currently only be available in New Zealand, Singapore and our very own country – South Africa; but Instagram is planning global availability too.
We’re going to other regions soon, but are starting with handful of countries to make sure we can scale the experience.
And with every new app comes a lawsuit, and a startup called Bolt was already planning to release their similar app before Instagram jumped onto the name, and they’re pissed.
“We know it’s a great name, because we chose it last year when we set out to build a better mobile voice and messaging experience,” Bolt said in an open letter to Instagram. “We’ve worked really hard since then building the Bolt brand and technology to where it is today. Please don’t destroy all that effort.”
