In October, the seventh remaining Northern White Rhino died, leaving only SIX on planet Earth.
Sadly, another one has died, at the age of 44, which means that there are now FIVE left, which is enough to make anyone cry.
Angalifu lived at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. He was one of the two remaining males of the species.
Angalifu’s death is a tremendous loss to all of us, not only because he was well beloved here at the park but also because his death brings this wonderful species one step closer to extinction.
San Diego Zoo still has Nola, a female rhino, and they had hoped the two would breed.
Three of the other rhino’s (Sudan, Najin and Fatu) are in Kenya, where people have their fingers crosses that one of them has a calf with Sudan.
The fourth rhino lives at the Dvur Kralove Zoo in the Czech Republic.
Looks like we’re going to witness the extinction of a species unless an actual miracle happens.
