It’s a happy thought. Especially because they’ve been holding the naked sledding world championships in Braunlage, which they tell me is in Germany – a country with a rich history in this noble endeavour. Dozens of competitors took part, and they weren’t all ladies! Surprise.
I mean, the hope is that there’s more to this sport than the hee-hee-hoo element of having people sledding with nothing but a helmet and briefs to keep their heads protected – apparently there were 17,000 spectators, and 400 applicants to race, but room could only be made for 30. Given that naked sledging requires one to go downhill while naked, I am not entirely sure which stringent entry requirements were used to filter out the elite naked people from the riff-raff, but whatever, it’s Braunlage. All three winners came from a local hotel.
