How Much Would You Pay For A ’95 World Cup Jersey, Signed By Madiba And The Whole Springbok Squad?

Nelson Mandela, Francois Pienaar, Kitch Christie - all names immortalised during the 1995 Rugby World Cup. You prepared to pay for your nostalgia?

If that picture above doesn’t bring a smile to your face then sorry, you must be a pretty tough nut to crack.

Unless you’re a Kiwi, in which case we don’t care if your team came down with a case of food poisoning before kick-off.

The 1995 Rugby World Cup is one that will live on forever in our collective memories, and there are thousands of bars across the country decorated with pictures from the historic occasion.

Ag, while we’re here why don’t we enjoy one or two…

Well, I’m in a decent mood all of a sudden.

Gloating aside we came here to talk about a jersey from the tournament, and how much you think it might fetch these days as a collector’s item.

We don’t really need to play the guessing game, because we actually found one listed on Gumtree. We’ve seen a few items of interest on the site of late – including a bronze medal from the 1950 British Empire Games HERE – but this one should really set tongues wagging.

Here’s the text from the Gumtree advert:

A beautiful signed 1995 rugby world cup jersey signed by Nelson Mandela and the Springbok squad including the coach, doctor and physiotherapist.

Jersey comes with a full COA [Certificate of Authenticity] from Cecil Greenfield plus a RWC 1995 final ticket plus a 1995 RWC final programme.

This particular jersey is the same as the players wore in the RWC final in 1995.

Very rare and very collectible!!

Yep, I think that would look pretty good hung up next to my signed Alan Shearer Newcastle jersey.

(Alan, if you’re reading this I’m still waiting).

Right, the important bit – just how much is this jersey going to set you back? The listed price is R100 000, which means you’ll need to be a serious rugby fan to pull the trigger on this one.

That, or maybe you think it will be worth more in years to come and it’s actually an investment.

Either way we’re glad we found it and had ourselves a little trip down memory lane. I’m prepared to go in for a timeshare option, any takers?
