A Thorough Comparison Of The Fastest Mobile And Wireless Download Speeds In SA

Mobile and wireless speeds in South Africa are average, to say the least, but how do they fare when compared to one another?

MyBroadband has a really, really cool tool on its website. Called a speed test – yes, I know they are nothing new – you can measure the average download speed for various broadband connections in South Africa.

This speed test, though, is very legit.

Their servers use Ookla’s platform and are hosted in Teraco’s vendor-neutral data centres in Johannesburg and Cape Town. MyBroadband explains:

MyBroadband filters speed tests based on network information from Internet service providers to ensure accurate results which reflect real-world conditions.

For the past month, MyBroadband calculated the averages speeds and MTN came out on top in both mobile download and upload.

Check the results:

That’s a pretty high upload speeds compared to others, hey?

But you can do this yourself. You can find MyBroadband’s tool HERE and it’s an easy process – although they only have options for Cape Town and Johannesburg.

First, you select which connection you would like to test:

Then, when you click your city, it gets working:

Once it’s complete, it gives you some pretty pictures and a neat little report:

Too legit.
