There are a few instances of the following image floating around on Facebook, but they each offer a different explanation for the event.
A couple was photographed in a Shoprite store on their wedding day, and the picture subsequently went viral – what an odd choice for such a celebration.
So why did they couple go there?
Well it wasn’t because “the bride insisted they go via Shoprite coz her competition works there,” as one suggested, or because the groom “asked for leave for a weekend to get married but Shoprite refused and insisted he should be at work. So he got married,” as suggested by another.
According to Shoprite spokesperson Sarita Van Wyk, the picture was captured at a Shoprite store in Botswana on Sunday 25 September and she revealed the real season the couple were there:
The photo depicts members of the wedding party of Onalenna Gaewe‚ a bakery assistant in Shoprite Maun‚ Botswana‚ who was married on Sunday‚ 25 September at a church in town.
On the request of some of her colleagues who were not able to attend the wedding‚ Onalenna and her bridegroom agreed to pay a quick visit to the store on their way to the reception venue‚ to receive their gifts and congratulations.
And there you have it. Next time, get the real story before assuming the worst in people.
