The weekend has ended off on a melancholy note as a woman believed to be in her 40s was killed after becoming trapped under a rock fall on Table Mountain in Camps Bay.
The woman and a moderately injured male counterpart both came to be trapped on the path that was temporarily closed.
Paramedics arrived on scene around midday on Sunday and had to wait for a helicopter to transport the injured man to them, ER24 spokesperson Annine Siddall told News24:
He was treated and transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care. The woman was declared dead by mountain rescue services.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not yet known to our paramedics but local authorities were on the scene for investigations.
Two more women, also believed to be in their 40s, have also come away from the incident with minor injuries, but they reportedly turned down going to the hospital for further medical care.
Be careful out there on the mountains trails, hikers.
