The Anglican Church of the Holy Spirit in Surfers Paradise, on Australia’s Gold Coast, has made the news for a rather iffy church sign.
Church signs aren’t usually rocking sex-related puns, but I guess they do things differently Down Under.
The first person to spot it was local politician John-Paul Langbroek (real name, no jokes), who shared it on Instagram.
I think I get what they mean, but it is still pretty cheeky:
When the church was quizzed about it by a local newspaper, reports Mashable, they explained:
“You don’t open your mouth and yell at somebody, you close your mouth and swallow,” they told the newspaper. “If you want to say something, keep your mouth closed for a bit. Swallow it, don’t spit it out.”
Wise words.
Avid followers of church signs might think this all sounds rather familiar, and they would be right. Here’s one from a Florida church last November:
Does the ‘there’s no such thing as bad publicity’ rule still apply to churches?
