I don’t pretend to know a great deal about Shaolin kung fu, but I can tell you that the video below is pretty damn intense.
Imagine spending years of your life slogging away in the perfection of your art, and then facing a final test in front of examiners with the very highest standards.
In a new BBC Sacred Wonders segment, “at the Shaolin Temple in China, a Buddhist warrior monk faces a test that will change the course of his life forever”.
Everyone enjoys drama of a differing variety, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching the ‘monkey up a tree’ struggles culminate in the final test.
Go on, give work a rest for eight minutes and be transported to another place:
Nailed it.
I find it a little sad that he can’t throw out a few fist pumps to celebrate his success, but such is the life of a warrior monk.
