It’s been three decades since a fictionalised version of Will Smith took that cab ride from Philadelphia to join his aunt and uncle’s household in California.
Since the original run, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has been broadcast again and again, including recently on Netflix.
I rewatched it – it really holds up.
Most of the cast will be reuniting for a 30th-anniversary reunion special on HBO Max this month, produced by Will Smith’s company, Westbrook Media.
Westbrook is also behind the upcoming Bel-Air – a remake of the series as a hard-hitting drama.
Per Deadline, Smith first announced the reunion with a trailer posted to his Instagram account.
“You probably seen the picture: me with the whole ‘Fresh Prince’ cast,” Smith says via selfie-cam at the top of the teaser.
“But you not ready for this trailer. You couldn’t be ready for this trailer. Happy Thanksgiving. … Thank you, Will. Yes, you’re welcome, Will.”
The trailer shows Smith, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid, Alfonso Ribeiro, and DJ Jazzy Jeff at the Bel-Air mansion. The cast also remembers the late James Avery (Uncle Phil) who passed away in 2013.
Prepare for peak nostalgia:
Will says that we weren’t ready for the trailer. Personally, I wasn’t ready for the fact that Carlton didn’t age.
He didn’t age at all.
I don’t know how to feel about that.
Catch the reunion on November 19 (Thursday) on HBO Max.
