A report released by U.S. intelligence agencies claims that Chinese and Russian hackers, hired by their governments, have been stealing classified data from American government organizations. Assumptions like this have been made before, but this is the first time such a report to Congress has pointed the finger squarely at China and Russia.
Because there’s nothing like a little Cold War era fear-mongering to distract people from impending catastrophic financial ruin.
Says Security News:
The report, compiled by the Office of the National Counterintelligence Executive and with input from 14 American intelligence agencies, calls Chinese hackers “the world’s most active and persistent perpetrators of economic espionage,” and says Moscow’s intelligence services are using the Internet to “collect economic information and technology to support Russia’s economic development and security.
Both countries’ governments hire independent hackers to conduct attacks, which also target trade and technology secrets and other intellectual property.
The future, the report contends, will see an increase in cyberespionage efforts from both China and Russia.
What is sspecially nice is how the report made it clear that the only way U.S. businesses and organizations would be safe from The Reds and their cybercriminal ways would be to institute better policies and pay certain agencies lots of money to upgrade their cyber-security.
