Old Grey Sports Club in Gqeberha had to stub out a social media fire after one of their staff members labelled a patron’s table “Indian” on their bill.
Meshaan Naidoo shared a picture of the bill on Faebook, which has since caused quite a stir.
Although, management at the popular Glendinningvale restaurant said that the matter has now been resolved and that the post has been taken down.
TimesLIVE reported that they could not get in touch with the customer for his comment, but that he wrote this on the Facebook post alongside a picture of the “Indian” tab:
“This kind of behaviour in 2022 is unacceptable.
Instead of putting our table number as the tab name, our table number was ‘Indian’.
I won’t be visiting your establishment again, Old Grey Sports Club.”

The post received comments from other users calling the situation “disgusting”, “disappointing”, and “unacceptable”. Some even threatened to boycott the restaurant.
While it is normal for a waiter to note the table with a quick descriptor like “big family” or “red hat” it’s wise to stay away from descriptors like the above.
A manager at the Old Grey Sports Club who went only by Brad stressed that the matter had been resolved and the club posted a statement on Facebook to clear the air:
