The world's richest person has taken to Twitter to quip about purchasing Manchester United from the Glazers.

It’s been a tough start to the season for Manchester United fans.

Losing to a well-organised Brighton side in the Premier League opener was bad enough, but then Brentford scored four goals inside the first half on Saturday to truly humble Erik ten Hag’s side.

Be sure to reach out to a Manchester United fan this week and offer consolation. No other set of fans has ever suffered through almost 10 years without a league title and five years without a European trophy.

Oh, the horror.

Monday night’s fixture against old foes Liverpool will see a sizeable protest outside Old Trafford, led by supporters’ group ‘The 1958’, who are pushing for the Glazers to sell the club.

Who better to buy the club than the world’s richest person, right? Enter Elon Musk:

Breathe it in, Manchester United fans. The good times are back. No more McFred in midfield!

At the time of writing, Forbes estimates Musk’s net worth to be $270 billion, which is £222 billion.

Fun fact – that could buy you 2 725 Harry Maguires, which equates to roughly one clean sheet every five matches.

Except, sadly for those desperate to see the back of the Glazers, Musk clarified that he was just having a laugh:

Definitely funnier than the long-running joke that he’s buying Twitter.

Later, he did offer a glimmer of hope:

No wonder he’s so entitled.

Let’s get stuck into some of the memes and jokes that are doing the rounds. These via News18:

We never said they were good jokes and memes.

Fine, more:

Chin up, Manchester United fans – at least you’re not bottom of the league table with Liverpool to come.

Oh, wait…
