Sex work still doesn’t have the best rep.
But things are changing, with more and more people seeing the value in legalising the age-old practice and bringing it out of the shadows.
An American woman, who goes by the stage name Dacé, is schooling people all over social media with her TikTok videos demystifying what it means to be a legal sex worker in the US.
She is one of the girls at Nevada’s first legal brothel, the Mustang Ranch.
Dacé has been working at the Mustang Ranch since 2016, after her personal struggles with jobs and men became too much and she decided to shoot a state over to try out the world of sex work.
She’s since racked up more than 77 000 followers on TikTok, which she started in earnest, and which picked up steam after comments and questions came flooding in, per Vox:
“I just started making informational videos because people asked questions over and over again,” she says. “And I was like, ‘Man, they really want to know this stuff.’”
The comments on Dacé’s videos are perhaps a reflection of the intense curiosity about the function of sex work in society, but also likely a result of Americans’ lack of knowledge on the subject.
Because of the platform’s notoriously strict content moderation policies, Dacé has come to refer to herself as ‘The Modern Working Girl‘:
Most of her videos are answers to specific questions from commenters:
Here is the answer to other questions you’re likely burning to ask:
She has also shared a couple of “weird stories”, including this one about an alleged religious cult couple:
And this one about a doting mother:
Plus, the moment she realised that two men were in fact related:
Vox has an interview with Dacé, detailing more about her first time with clients and the brothel system, her schedule, the rules and regulations, her future plans, and the surprising things she’s learned while working:
“The most surprising thing I’ve learned is how starved our society is of human touch and compassion,” she says.
“People come in and just humbly beg for your affection and a little intimacy, more so than any kind of vulgar sexual act.”
As far as her pay goes, she makes a lovely $250 000 per year including tips.
That figure is before taxes but after Mustang Ranch takes its 50% cut.
