Wait, what? Cape Town’s pride and joy, Cape Town Stadium, apparently has sections of the roof pulling loose, despite only being around for two years. Damage was found to the bolts holding the roof in place during a routine inspection. Guess how much the investigation is going to cost you, Cape Town Ratepayer…
Cape Town Stadium’s roof was purposefully designed to withstand the typically strong coastal winds at the foot of the mountain, particularly strong south-easterly winds. Or so we thought. Engineering firm, Arup Consulting Engineers, has been appointed by the city to investigate the damage, at a cost of R1 million. An independent professional review will be released at the end of the investigation, after which a course of action will be decided on.
Cape Town Stadium cost Cape Town ratepayers R44,6 million last year.
