A monument dedicated to Steve Jobs is in the works to go up in the main square of St. Petersburg, Russia. The Foundation of IT Progress – the organization behind the initiative – has launched a competition to find the best concept for the memorial.

Apart from having the rest of us think you are awesome if you win, the winning Russian will also receive the latest iPad model with WiFi + 4G. There is also a second place prize of an iPhone 4S 16GB, as well as a third prize –  an iPhone 4 8GB.

The winner will be selected by a panel of IT professionals in St. Petersburg, as well as votes from internet users. The deadline is 12:00 p.m. (Moscow time) on Monday, August 6.

Here are some project notes via the Foundation of IT Progress’ website:

This can be any idea – a classical monument, stele, memorial plaque and even any kind of modern electronic installation. Steve Jobs’ ideas helped IT technologies become so widespread. A memorial should be installed in St. Petersburg, the memorial to this man of genius, who sped [sic] up the progress of our civilization.”
